Post subject: chase CLI?
i got a pre-approval offer from chase for a chase platinum card. i was approved, but the limit is $400! i am a college student, but my wells fargo card was a CL of $5,000 (it is not a student card; i am only carrying $800 in debt)! The $400 ispretty much pointless. howlong do i have to wait to get a CLI? also, when you apply for a CLI online does chase pull a hard inquiry? thanks in advance.

IMHO, wait to get 6 months of good payment history, then try. I've not gotten an automatic CLI with Chase (but have with BofA and Citi) and I have not filled out the form to find out if they do a hard pull or not.

I also started low with Chase Platinum. Mine was at $800, then after about six to nine months they increased me automatically to $1,200, then it took another six months for the limit to reach $1,700. Chase is known for their small CL increases... Calling in doesn't help the case either IF you want a soft pull.. The analyst told me he needs to pull hard, but I told him not to bother. And the reason why I called in was that my 'request a CLI' link would always return an error message (within the site - I mean it wasn't a connection drop). Might be due to a recent automatic increase though. Anyway, why have "a page is not available" message when they could plainly say that's because of a recent auto increase??....
IMHO, in your case pulling hard won't help a lot either if your other cards are relatively new..., unless another $400-600 tops is worth a hard for you...

thanks for the info. chase is the 1st new card i have gotten in 5 years. my 3 other cards (wells fargo, victorias secret, and express) are 5-6 years old. i don't want hard inquiries, so i will not apply for another card for a while. i am just disapointed that i got a chase card with such a low limit; a $400 limit on a brand new card is not going to help my credit score at all.
