Department Store Credit Card Tips

I was wondering what department store CC's does everyone have, if any, and do you plan on getting any in the forseeable future. The 2 on my list are Best Buy & Dillards. I will probably hold out until late summer/early fall before applying only for the simple fact that I just started my credit history in September, and just got approved another CC last month, and I don't want to be rejected by these two stores. Not only that, I hoping by the Fall, after graduating in May, I will have had a job, which hopefully will give me a larger CL limit, especially on the Best Buy card

I suppose if you shop at a particular store a lot, it may be worth it for the special deals offered to cardholders, but I generally steer clear of store cards since I don't want to be limited on where I use my card. Plus, store card APRs are always higher than VISA/MC/AMEX rates, so they're poor choices in the event that you need to carry a balance. And finally, I doubt you can make balance transfers to them (although I guess that's no big deal since you wouldn't want to anyway with the higher APRs).

What you may want to consider are store cards that are available as VISA/MC cards, such as the Target Visa and Nordstrom Visa (the Nordstrom one has received great reviews on this site, and has one of the lowest APRs available - even compared to non-store cards).

I have Old Navy, Kohl's, and Home depot.

Old Navy and Kohl's helps to dress my kids nicely but cheaply with their specials, and HD helped me to fix my house up.

However, when Lowes opens in our town I want to get a Lowes Project card so that I can redo my kitchen.
