Post subject: Does the American Express card help in getting a mortgage?
Does having an American Express card help you when you are trying to get approved for a mortgage?
Years ago, I read that having an Amex card looked good on a mortgage application. I just want to know if this is still the case.

While having an amex tl on your credit report is good in the eyes of a loan officers, the amex name itself is not going to help you getting approved for a mortgage, managing it well however, will help tremendously.

Yes, I've managed my Amex account well for nearly a decade, along with all my other credit accounts.
However, I'm tired of paying the annual fee on the Amex account, and I'm thinking of dropping it, especially because I have a couple of other no-annual-fee cards. The only reason I keep the Amex card is because of what I read: The Amex card seems to look better than all other credit cards on a mortgage app. If it is no longer anything special to loan officers, then I no longer have any reason to keep the card.

WHy dont you try calling them and asking to have your fee waived? They may actually do this if you are going to close your acc.
