American Express Gold Card Credit Card Review

Hello everybody,

I am new to this forum and had a quick question for American Express Gold Rewards Card holders.

I have been with American Express for about a year now. I started with a Green Card ($60 Annual Fee) to the Gold Card ($90 Annual Fee). They told me the card would pay for itself.

I calculate that it saved me $100 directly (hotel and online orders) and another $150 if I cashed in the points I have.

Do you think the Gold Card is worth having in the long-run based on your own personal history with the card?

I charge every purchase I can to the card and it is my primary card.

I prefer AMEX "CREDIT" CARDS

There's no way to answer the question without knowing what you're spending your money on and what other choices you have. I've had a Gold AmEx card sine 1983, but I rarely use it because I have better offers/rewards for what I spend my money on. For example, I get 5% on gas, supermarket, and drugstore purchases on one Chase card. Why settle for rewards points (with restrictions and fees to transfer the points to other rewards programs) instead of 5% cash? Generally, the rewards program turns out to be about 1% cash in terms of the rewards cash value, if that. And the fee keeps going up...

I looked into the Cash Back cards before. You have to spend over $6,500 before the 5% kicks in. Then the 5% is calculated per purchase and usually only applies to gas, food, and other everyday items. All other purchases are 1% back.
