The second question: how high can the limits on them go?

Many of the elite cards go as high as 100K. No dobut Bill Gate's can get higher if he wants it. I haven't seen anyone on the fourms claiming they have higher than 100K on a single card.

Bill Gates can probably print his own credit card at home using an unreleased version of windows...then again..does the worlds richest man even need a credit card?

Well, it's not a matter of being rich or not. EVERYBODY needs a credit card to buy things online,at least. I'm sure some people can do without but it will make things too complicated when you try to shop online or rent a car or buy an airline ticket over the phone without having at least a debit card that has visa or mastercard logo. I think people really should need them for convenience, not for an additional income. So the answer to your question is, yes, he needs a credit card.
The highest limit I heard of is $250,000. I don't know if there are cards with higher limits. Charge cards propably can have higher limits. For our business, our charge limit with one of the buying groups is $9,999,999.99 but it's not a credit card and we have to pay it every month in full and only suppliers to our business take that form of payment.

There are only as many cards as they suit your personal
preferance in what you're looking for.
So despite being bombarded by thousands of offers from all
types of media, that's really all irrelevant and doesn't apply
to you. Once you know what you want, like 0% APR, 0 int. rate, then
you'll naturally know what to screen out and what to consider.
And the limit on them goes as high as your credit history (
if you already have a CC) or your income (if you never had a
credit card).
In most cases if you never had one, you'll be approved
with a low limit (eg. $700-$2000). This also assumes that you
have a full time or part-time job for over a year.
Once you start paying off each of your monthly credit debts, you
increase your credit history.... therefore when the time comes, you
can increase your credit limit.

Well, no, I doubt Bill Gates has a personal credit card He probably has people to do everything for him as well as corporate accounts all over the place. If he's not using a corporate jet to fly somewhere, I'm sure his corporate travel department makes the arrangements. Think corporate rather than consumer and you come up with a whole different set of procedures. Yes ov coures there are corporate credit cards too, but I'm reasonably certain that Bill Gates doesn't need to carry one.
