Clothing Store Credit Card Review

Post subject: Clothing store cc's, Gap cc- Gap/Old Navy/Banana Republic

A few weeks ago I received a replacement card for my Gap credit card along with some special offers. I didn't pay attention to what I got then. 2 days ago I looked at those special offers again and I found out that I got 3 coupons:
$10 off my Gap purchase
$10 off my Banana Republic purchase
$10 off my Old Navy purchase if I spend at least $50 on Old Navy.
All 3 had to be used by 11/6/2005

So yesterday (11/6) I went to Gap to buy a pair of jeans that cost $19.99+tax. With the $10 coupon I only had to pay $10.81. Then I went to Old Navy to buy $63 worth of stuff and used the $10 coupon. Didn't use the Banana Republic one though... their clothes are too costly.

It seems like I get an $10 off my Gap purchase coupon once a yr for free.

Do other clothing stores such as Abercrombie, victoria secret etc. give freebies like that when you own their credit cards?

Is having too many store credit cards bad when it will only be occasionally used?

They generally all have some type of promo at least once a year. If you frequent a particular retailer, you can get some nice savings/bonuses. Just NEVER carry a balance on a department store card!

Curtis, by "never carrying a balance on a department store card" are you referring that no one should carry a month to month balance on a department store card?? Plus, what benefit do these people receive by pushing their store's credit card?

Answer: They keep customers coming back!

I buy a lot of clothing at Men's Wearhouse. Why? By using their store credit card, everytime my spending reaches $500.00 I get a coupon good for $50.00 off my next purchase. That amounts to a 10% discount. So where do you think I'm going to go next time I want to buy some slacks or suits?

It's known as marketing.
