Credit Tips: High End Credit Cards

Post subject: High Status Cards?

I was reading the headlines at cardweb.com and there was a story about how the Visa Signature card was stealing market share from Amex for people with and income > $100K. I was curious as to who was issuing these cards.

So I went over to the cardoffers.com site, go to Card Directory->Selected Cards->High Status Cards, and what do I get? 285 listings! Every Tom, Dick, & Harry card issuer out there! Come on now. Is the Providian Visa Platinum Card with a rating of 1 box a “high status card”? I couldn’t even get a date with Princess with a card llike that.

So who decides what goes into the different card categories? I hope the other categories are more useful than the High Status one.
