Yes, they are on the list as bankruptcy unfriendly… this link takes you to a list I had received from lady from another site, she did a pretty good job putting this together… AOC site has a list like this as well, may be more up to date then this one.

Post subject: Discover Card
Hi,
I had 2 Discover Card accounts that I had stopped paying on. After 8 months of no payments, they sold the debt on one card to a collection agency and the other they gave to a law firm. Using a lawyer to negotiate for me, I wound up paying them $8,000 on $20,000 worth of debt. The collection agency had bought the debt from them and settled in a hurry for a fraction of what I owed. The law firm was another story, they took more money on a much lesser amount that I owed on my second account. I didn’t have to file bankruptcy and was able to get the debt listed as “Settled” on my credit report and a zeroed out balance. I would not attempt this without a lawyer though to work with you. They hounded me from October until May and I paid the 2 settlements in June. I hope this helps you out.
