I live in NY and my spouse recently died. Only his name was on his credit card accounts. Am I responsible for his debt?

Barbara,
Thanks for your post! I don’t think so, but I am not 100% certain. We have had similar posts here before and the laws do very from state to state, so the only way to be certain is to seek legal counsel. It might be easier just to call the credit card companies directly, though.
Let us know how things turn out and good luck.
Best Regards,

You don’t have to pay them, but if the house and cars are joint accounts, the credit card companys will probably put leans on them if you don’t pay.
NOTIFY THE CREDIT CARD COMPANYS THAT HE DIED. THEY MAY CHANGE THE NAME ON THE CARD TO YOURS IF YOU WANT THEM.
YOU MAY BE ABLE TO FREEZE THE INTEREST IF IT IS A BURDEN SINCE HE DIED.
