I have been going to a salon for a few years and have always been able to pay by check. Recently, they have decided to no longer accept checks only cash and credit cards/bank cards. Usually my charge is $10.00 and to pay by my bankcard they charge me a $2.00 fee, making my total $12.00. Is this legal?

I think there is no LAW against it but Visa and Master Card prohibit it in their merchant agreements. So, if that salon ever cuts your hair too short, you have a way to revenge.

P.S. By the way, merchant accounts are rather difficult to get back once closed.

SOME STATE PROHIBIT EXTRA FEES AND MINIMUM PURCHASES!!!
ALSO VISA/MASTERCARD PROHIBIT EXTRA FEES AND MINIMUM CHARGES IN THE CONTRACT.

NOTIFY VISA AND OR/MASTERCARD OF THE NAME, ADDRESS, CITY, STATE, PHONE #, AND THE DEPOSIT BANK IF KNOWN OF THE OFFENDING BUSINESS.

THEY WILL BE NOTIFIED OF THE RULES, AND PENDING TERMINATION DATE OF THEIR VISA/MASTERCARD CONTRACT(S).
