I ordered copies of my credit reports online yesterday from two companies: Experian and Equifax. My Experian report shows that I have excellent credit (no negative info) which is great. However, I know that I've had some accounts that went delinquint when I was finishing up college in 1994. I've had PERFECT credit since then. None of that information shows up on the Experian report.
The Equifax report, however, still has this "negative" information on their reports - all 3 of them. They are due to fall off the report in March, April, and the last one in May, 2000.
I was not able to see the copy from Transunion online so do not yet know what they are reporting.
My question is how can one report not have ANY negative information and another report have ALL of the negative information? It's making wonder if all of the credit offers that I have received are based on the Experian Report and the turn-downs based on the Equifax report.
Is there a way to find out which reports particular Creditors use when they view your credit?
Second question, one of these almost 7 year old delinquint accounts still shows the account being "open." Why would they leave a delinquint account open when as far as I knew back then, it was closed - I remember speaking with them on the phone about giving me another chance and they said no!
Final question, is it possible to ask the creditors of these 7 year old accounts to delete the information from my reports 10 months early since my credit has been absolutely perfect since then? Is this common practice?

Nancy--
go to www.creditmania.com. that site has a listing of creditors with the names of the CRAs they use to make credit decisions.
discrepancies in a credit report can have a serious impact. you should dispute an account that is erroneously listed as "open" because that means that the seven year period for the account to fall off the record has not even started to run. Once you dispute the debt, the creditor then has 30 days to report back to the CRA. If the creditor fails to do that, the item wll be deleted.
getting items deleted early is up to the creditor. if the accounts in question have been paid, they may have no incentive to delete them. I was successful in doing this once on a paid account.
if the accounts are unpaid, you can negotiate for deletion, but the creditor will probably want to get paid something for that.
the CRA will not delete on its own.
