IS THERE A CREDIT CARD YOU CAN GIVE TO YOUR COLLEGE STUDENT CHILD WHERE THE PARENT COULD HAVE SOME CONTROL ON THE AMOUNT OF CREDIT LIMIT AND COULD THIS BE MONITORED OVER THE INTERNET? THANK YOU FOR YOUR HELP

Dear Dominic,
The best way to control your son or daughters spending habit is to have them as an authorized user on one of your credit card accounts. That way you get the bills and have full authorization over the account and see where purchases are made. Of course, doing so won't really help their credit history, but it will allow for your son or daughter to learn about credit management.
Once they show responsibility and are over the age of 18, he or she could then apply for his or her own credit card. There are a variety of student credit cards out there with low limits (i.e. $500), but with high interest rates. Never the less, students who use credit wisely during their college years will be rewarded in the future and will have an easier time getting credit after graduation.
