Iam from another country and my wife is an American citizen, we both have social securuity #s and jobs. we own outright, property and land overseas and have no debt at all. I have a credit card from overseas and have never paid any interest as I always pay my bills at once. we are currently living in the U.S. in rented accomodation whilst our house is being constructed. we own a new Ford truck.
Since We have moved to the USA we have tried desperately to get a credit card from various sources but because we do not have a credit history in the USA we seem unable to get one. I have credit references from my banks, overseas credit card comp. utility companies etc and still cannot get a credit card.
I thought that this country revolved around credit , so whats wrong with me?
Can you help!?!

Board Monitor, where are you?

Judy,

Three things you can do?

One- buy a house here? You well have so many telemarketers offrering you a credit card yuo will be sick.

Two -get a secured card -open a bank account- and deposit up to $5000 and you will easily get a card. Two years later, after a good credit experience, the bank will change you to unsecured status and increase your limit.

Third, check with your overseas banks, they should have American counterparts here that can offer you credit cards
