I have been told that my ex-wife has credit cards in my name and lately my son has been bringing me mail that I have been getting at her house, an address where I have NEVER lived. Is there a way to find out what credit cards are in my name.
hope you can help,

Dear Jody,

Perhaps the easiest and fastest way to find out what accounts you are attached to (either as a primary cardholder or authorized user) is to check your credit history with all three credit bureaus - Experian, Trans Union, Equifax. (www.qspace.com offers a combined report for approx. $30 by mail)

Once you find out which credit cards you are liable for, you should contact the issuer of the card and explain your situation. Some may require a written letter, while others may allow you to close the accounts over the phone (assuming there are no balances due).

Never-the-less, if an individual is using your identity for unauthorized transactions, this is illegal, and you might want to consider legal counseling.

Sincerely,

Get copies of your credit reports from all three agencies. The addresses are on this site. Send them a letter requesting a copy of your credit report, and include your name, address, hpone number, SSN, DOB, and a photocopy of your driver's license as proof of identity. You get one free report a year from each agency.

Most credit cards report to the credit bureaus, but not all. I'm not sure how you can find out about any who do not. If you find one, she has committed forgery - by signing your name. You can file charges against her and that would take care of it.
Family members often get away with this sort of thing because no one wants to prosecute them - as an insurance agent I have seen similar situations. Of course your other option is to handle it yourself. Good luck.
Linda
