Looking for a fixed, low-rate credit card to consolidate higher-rate cards. My credit history is excellent, but my minimum payments are getting too high! Any suggestions on URL's? Or, what to watch out for? Thanks!

If you have excellent credit, you shouldn't have a problem qualifying for the Bank of America 8.9% fixed rate card. The APR of 8.9% applies to balance transfers only and doesn't expire, making it a great choice for those wishing to consolidate debt. It also features a 8.9% intro on purchases for 6 months, then goes up to around 17% - 22% for purchases. It sounds like your debt may be long term (more than 12 months to pay off), so the BoA card may be the best choice.
The URL is: http://www.bankofamerica.com/creditcards/index.cfm?template=cc_visa_plat_89.cfm
You may also want to consider low teaser rates that last for extended periods of time, such as Citibank's Platinum Select - 2.9% for 9 Months on Transfers - not a bad deal for short term debt. You can find a list of low intro rates at this site by going to:

My husband and I just bought our first home three months ago. During the closing process, we noticed that Chase had raised the interest rate on our Shell MC to 26% for both cash advances and purchases. We have been a cardholder for 5+ years and have never been late. I attempted to get a better rate but was told that this was the best they could do. So I closed the account. My question is, I really need to transfer this balance to a lower rate card but I do not really want or need another open credit card. I just want a decent rate in which to pay off this balance. The balance is approx. $5,000 and we usually pay a couple hundred a month for payment. We had stopped using the card a couple of months ago anyway. I do not know how the recent mortgage process will effect our credit scores and the last thing I want is to go applying for all sorts of cards. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
Many Many Thanks,
Rebecca
