My boyfriend has horrible credit and owes a substantial amount of money to credit card companies. I on the other hand have excellent credit. I am concerned that if we get married his credit will effect me. Will it? How?

If you ever have any "joint" accounts, it will hurt you.
Keep everything seperate.
If you decide to buy a house it will haunt you, because it is very hard to buy a house by yourself...they ask too many questions (might violate some law).

You might be able to help with his problems if you balance transfer his problems away, that is if you both agree, and both are able to pay yours off.

0.00%-9.99% balance transfers are everywhere.

Yes his credit will affect you but only if you apply joint for credit.

As for a house, I am newly married, 64 days, and we purchased a house three weeks after we were married. I had an error on my credit report showing that I was currently 60 days late on my car loan, which caused my credit rating to drop. I had to fight FMC and Equifax to get this fixed but it was not fixed till after we closed on the house. I am not listed on the mortgage but I am on the title. All they did was remove my name from the buyer's agreement. If you have good credit, like my husband does, you should have too much trouble. As a spouse I am in-titled to be on the title for my protection. My husband can't sell the house out from under me. Good Luck.
