I have never owned a credit card, and now that I am into my junior year of college (4 yr. university) I decided I should start to move in that direction. My student loans do not need to be repaid until I graduate from school in two years. I recently bought a cell phone, and was told that would help me establish credit, but odviously not enough to get me approved for a credit card. I have been denied by everyone I apply to- even the student cards! I have been told that every time you are denied, it goes against you on your credit- is this true? How am I to get credit, if no one will give me a card to build it with?! Someone please help!

Which student cards have you applied for? Most student cards will approve anyone without credit. That's what they are looking for! So you can use their card and have a sense of loyalty toward them since they were the first to extend credit to you. (not in my case, I cancelled my capital one card as soon as I was approved for a better one) My friend with no credit got approved for a discover student card, as well as a capital one student card. But I would avoid capital one if I were you... discover is a good company, try for that one. I can't imagine being denied student cards with no credit history, it must be something else...

If you are a college student all you have to do is fill out a credit application in your bookstore.. You do not even need an income.. A word of caution, be careful, because you can get in a rut, and never get out of it for a long time, if you do not know how to use it.. I know that MBNA gives credit cards to 4 year college students.. all you need is prove of enrollment.. such as college loans showing on your credit report., ect..
