Is there any quantifiable difference between Visa and Mastercard? MBNA, and other credit card companies, offer identical cards (i.e. APR, grace periods, etc) some with the Visa logo, others with Mastercard logo. Is their a difference? If so, which is better?

The terms of each card such as APR, grace periods are established by the issuing bank but many of the benefits associated with cards are provided through Visa or Mastercard rather than the bank. These include extended warranty protection, car rental insurance, lost baggage protection, etc. It is rare to find a merchant in the United States that accepts one but not the other type of card. It used to be that Visa had wider acceptance than Mastercard in Europe but I think that has changed.
