Look at the offer. Does it say that the card is a visa or mastercard? Is the offer from a bank? If the answer is no, definitely don’t send them any money. Either they are trying to scam you outright or they are offering you a card that can be used only to buy items from a catalogue of high priced junk.

If the card is a bank-issued visa or mastercard, you should look closely at the terms (Interest rate, fees, grace period, etc.) to decide if this is the card for you.

Note: A popular scam involves telephone offers like this. The caller says you are pre-approved for a card and will ask you to supply your checking account number so that they can debit the processing fee and get the card out to you right away. The money gets deducted from your account, you don’t get a card, and they disappear.

Dave Don’t talk about things you know nothing about. I work for a tele-sales company called telespectrum. We explain the card and what it is and then we have to do a tape recorded verification processing if they decide they want it , so there is no mistakes on our part. In the verifaction we explain the entire card to the customer including, ANY FEES, if there are any, THE APR, and any other info. It is against the law not to tell a customer about all fees before sending the card. Most cards will have a 30 day trial period and if you get the information and it is not what you want, just call up and cancle. When we say pre-approved it means that the credit bureau has done a preliminary check on your credit to see if you are eligable for certain offers. We still may need to ask your income, age, and other things, but that is just to see if you are STILL eligible for the offer and your credit has not changed since the last time it was checked. Most issures like me can leave you with a TOLL FREE 800# if you do not feel comftorable leaving any info with an issuer you can call to make sure that we are ligit. Anyways if anyone has any questions e-mail me at Lauren2Moon@aol.com.

No legitimate VISA or MasterCard lender will ask you for a processing fee. Throw it away and look around on this board or elsewhere for some LEGITIMATE offers.

A few subprime lenders demand processing fees. They are refundable if the account is not set up. Orchard Bank, for one, does this on some of its offers and its offers are legitimate.
