Does anybody know of a card that doesn't charge you to transfer your balances from another account? How about one that provides free checks to use?

- I have an MBNA - AAA Platinum Plus which didn't charge fees for the balance transfer I did when opening the account (they gave me 0%APR on BTs)
- The Citi - Platinum Select MasterCard doesn't charge fees for the balance transfers done in the introductory/promotional period (9 months with 0%APR on BTs and purchases, yeeehaa)

Careful on that Citibank deal, I've seen fine print that says they charge up to $35 on at least some offers. They were offering 0% until 10/2002 on the Citibank Dividend card. Now there's an offer that is hard to beat. Unfortunately, both myself and the Mrs. have Citi Divvie cards already.

Peter,
Was your Credit Card approved by being transferred by a Telesales Rep directly to a Credit Analyst immediately after they took your Demo's, ect for the Application..? The reason why I asked is that MBNA is starting to do instant decisioning on credit card application, this avoids the 17-30 day wait to see if your application was approved.. MBNA just started doing it about 4 months ago.. Good Luck

MBNA didn't approve me "instantly". The rep. told me that although they usually approve the application within 30 sec they cannot instantly approve me and that I'll get an answer in the mail in 7 to 10 business days.
And voila! I've got a much better card than I was hoping for. I didn't expect anything with a credit limit higher than 5000$ (my credit history was only 1.5 years old)
They gave me 7500.... and they BT it directly to my ING SAVINGS account! (it pays 3.5% APR now!) There was no BT fee, and 0%APR on BTs for 6 month... yeehaaa

I just transfered a balance to First USA at 0% for 6 months. The offer said $35 max, and reps repeated the same, said they "the fee is not negotiable on 0% offers". I requested a BT anyway, but for some reason they could not do it, so they sent me a check to do it myself. I accidentally found out, there's $50 fee on that check (doesn't even say that in fine print!) I called, and they said they would do the BT over the phone and because they screwed up before, they will waive the fee alltogether. I have not seen the first statement yet, though.
Earlier this year, MBNA also waived the BT fee for me when I asked.
So, what I am saying is: the fee IS very much negotiable even if they say it's not.
