I have moved to the US to get married. I have got my SSN but am having problems getting a credit rating as I have no past etc over here.
I have 2 Questions
1 Is there anyway of getting agencies to check against my UK credit history?
2 What can I do to get a credit rating over here

Contact companies that issue cards in UK and US.
Citibank http://www.citibank.com/domain/contact/
Capital One http://www.capitalone.com/contactus/indexr.shtml
MBNA http://www.mbna.com/europe/a_car_locations.html
If you don't get an answer right away ask for a supervisor. Customer service repos may be a little baffled by your question if it's out of the ordinary (it is).
Hey, Ed is with MBNA, maybe he can find out for you.

My significant other had exactly the same problem. She lived in the Liverpool area for 16 years where she was a homeowner and a model citizen with excellent credit. When she returned to the states she was treated creditwise as if she was a newborn. Nobody would grant her credit because none of the reporting agencies gather information on ot of country credit. After many months she finally got an American Express card. Within a few months she was able to get a few other cards. I don't know why the credit reporting agencies can't report on international credit history. It can't be that difficult.
