i have had excellent credit for years. now my finances have changed. i called the credit card places and only one will lower my monthly payment. credit card servies want too much monthly. i can't afford it. so i started paying lower than the minimum due on 3 of my cards. but i make them every month. do they have to accept this or will i be heading for trouble. kathi

In regards to the less than the minimum payments, they will accept them , but if they are less than the required minimum payment and you have not worked out a reduced payment program or other arrangements, it will not prevent you from being reported to credit bureaus, as past due.. If you are having trouble meeting minimum payments , ect try to contact a CCCS or try working in house with the credit card Companies.. Good Luck

Ed's right. They will gladly accept your payments, however, not paying the minimum amount due by the due date will be considered a late payment and you will be assessed a late fee (the average is now about $29) and you'll begin to ruin your credit.

Try calling your credit card issuers and ask about "hardship" programs they may have. Those late fees will really add up and cause you even more debt.
