Post subject: How to Stop Credit Card Solicitations

Who do I call or write to to stop credit card solicitations for my business, a previous name of my business, and for a business name that I never had? All solicitations are addressed to my business/residential address/ suite #. The bus. name I never had was a business for someone in my building, but noone knows who it was and Dunn & Bradstreet won't say what suite, of 75, it existed in. How do I stop the solicitations????

The short answer is you can't, any more than you can stop 3rd class solicitations from coming to your home. You can visit the DMA (Direct Marketing Association) web site which I believe is www.dma.com, but that may not be accurate. It's been a while since I've been there. When you get there you will find a section on removing yourself from mailing lists. There should be an address to write to and a form to fill out to request removal from mailing lists. In theory it will take about six months to be totally removed, but there is no guarantee that it will work or that it will be permanent. There are about a zillion list providers out there and they have all sorts of ways of putting their lists together. Since there's no way to find out where any particular mailer got your address (if you asked them point blank, they really wouldn't know. They buy lists consisting of 100,000+ names), I don't know what else you can do.

I assume that you are referring to mail solicitations. The following web page gives some great tips for stopping phone solicitations (in case you are getting phone solicitations as well). I suspect some of this info. overlaps as well.

If a particular bank's offers bug you much more than those of others, call them and ask them to remove you from their list. It works faster but doesn't stop other solicitations, of course.
