Hi,
I need help on exactly what to say to get my interest rate lowered. I owe about $2000 to discovercard, they're charging me 18%. I make payments on time, usually over the minimum. What is the best "line" or story to get them to lower my rate, please help! Thanks!

Don't waste your breath (they won't do it).
Balance transfer your Discovercard balance to another card.

There are two ways, both of which are just about the same. First, apply for a card with a low introductory rate on balance transfers. For instance, if you qualify, Citibank is offering zero percent for 12 months, or at least they were several weeks ago. Obviously, when you get the new card, transfer the balance from Discover. Part 2 may and may not work, but there's no harm in trying. Once you find an offer that you like, call Discover and tell them that you've got this great offer from XYZ Credit Cards and you're thinking seriously of getting that card to lower your cost of borrowing. Is there anything they can do to match the offer so that you can stay with them. They'll probably say no, but like I said, it never hurts to try. I've played this silly game several times. Some banks will lower your rate. The idea is to leverage the offers against your current card.

I dont really want anymore cards, I already have more than I can handle. You think I could pull a bluff and just say I want to close my account because the rate is too high? Or simply say I received another credit card and will transfer the balance unless I can get a lower rate?
