Has anyone gotten their promised rebate? The rebate that the Fleet agreement says will be paid 45 days after the end of the year?
I think Fleet has misled a lot of people. Thier customer service is almost non existent.
I would not recommend Fleet to anyone!! Do your self a favor and stay away from Fleet!

I have seen way too many complaints on Fleet. Even though they offer this cool rebate card, I am glad I did not go with it (only because of bad rap Fleet is getting, it’s a great card if you look at the terms).

They keep telling people whatever they can to delay sending the rebate: “the check is already in the mail”, “we are having technical difficulties”, “the check will be sent in two weeks”…

What can you do? First, tell them to cut the crap and tell all this to somebody who cares. The bottomline is, you were supposed to receive the rebate by , and you did not. This is a violation of the Credit Card Agreement, which they are obligated to comly with by law but are not. Tell them what exactly they are violating (mention pages, sections, paragraphs, quotes, whatever) and add that you are going to complain to the Office of the Comtroller of the Currency and other banking regulators or even sue (see if you can in your agreement). Sprinkle your conversation with quotes of the agreement they are violating, with the names of the regulating authorities, with the dates (of the deadline for the rebate receipt, of your last conversation with them, of today’s date etc.) Find out from the agreement what state they are located in and mention you are going to complain to the Office of the Attorney General of .

A lot of valid details spoken in a calm and firm voice send them the message of trouble coming from you, and that’s exactly what you want. Think kick-***** $300 an hour attorneys graduated from Yale (that includes speaking as if you are reading, and avoiding words like “cutting the crap” and mentioning some parts of body that you are going to kick). The victim image only hurts.

Ask for the full name and extension of the person you are talking to, and after they promise you any dates (they will just to get rid of you, that’s what Fleet does), tell them you are going to wait for the check in that day’s mail, and then all the complaints that will be sent out, will include that person’s name and the details of this conversation, with a copy to Fleet’s legal department and his supervisor personally (ask for a name and the office address).

If the rep doesn’t even hide that he doesn’t care (a little attitude in the form of “Go ahead, Sir!” when you first hint involving authorities can be a give-away), ask for his supervisor and do this untill you reach the person who does care (you knew that supervisors had managers, right?)

If they interrupt you and talk back to you, politely but firmly ask them not to (unless they are offering something constructive), and then at the second time this happens, ask to speak to the supervisor.

Follow up with a letter if you are not too lazy to write it and if the rebate amount justifies it to you.

That is the only way to get them. Some just don’t get it the nice way.

Then, after the rebate is in your hands (as I am sure it will be), sit down and think if you want to go through this again next year.
