Yesterday,I called First USA Mastercard to find out how much money was applied to my $400 cash atm withdrawal a few weeks ago. I simply wanted to know of the $500 payment that I sent them, how much was applied to the cash balance. She would not directly answer and just informed me that she would send me the rules for me to review. I insisted with my previous question and after being put on hold 5 times, I demanded to then speak to a supervisor. He also did not want to tell me. However, eventually and reluctantly he said $150. Then, I asked how come so little and how can I payoff the cash balance. He said, “that I cannot” pay it off. Of course, I thought that is ridiculous and that there must be a way. He unfortunately said there was not. IS THIS LEGAL? How can these credit card corporations get away with this very unethical practice? How can they force me to make incremental payments, while incurring a higher (19.99%) daily interest rate. By the way, the conversation became stranger when he accussed me of recording the conversation without his permission. I did not and then, I demanded that I want my credit card cancelled. He switched me over to another person and she ask, “how can we keep you as a customer?” Of course, I replied, “by telling me how I can payoff my cash balance”. She said, she cannot.
I believe credit card corporations have gotten carried away with their restrictions and rules obviously to their advantage, and I want to fight back. Please answer my 1st question and then tell me how I can fight back further.
Thanks, Michael

To pay off a CASH ADVANCE, you MUST OVER PAY THE ACCOUNT!!!
So if you owe $4,000 in purchases and do a $500 CASH ADVANCE, you MUST pay $4,500 + the accrued interest to be PAID IN FULL.
Never use a CASH ADVANCE on a card you have balance transfers or purchases on.
I have cards only for BALANCE TRANSFERS, and cards only for purchases. I HAVE NO CARDS FOR CASH ADVANCES. (POOR MONEY MANAGEMENT).

Michael, what is the amount on the mastercard that is for purchases?
I think what the credit card people were telling you was that the purchases, which are at a lower APR, must be paid off completely before the cash advance can be removed.
I am positive that the cash advance can be paid off at any time with one payment, if you basically send in a check to cover your entire outstanding balance (purchases plus cash advances).
Yes, the credit card industry is morally corrupt, it is desperately in need of Government intervention.
For example, Federal Legislation should be passed that would require that all monthly payments submitted must apply to the highest APR (cash advances) first.
Without such a law, the borrower, that being you, is screwed. The high interest charges are mounting, while you try to pay down the purchases which have a lower APR.
If it is any comfort to you, I returned my 1st USA credit card because of their well earned reputation.
