I read in “Credit secrets that shouldn’t be secret ”
that you can get a free credit report from the “Big Three”
and it wouldn’t effect you credit report ??
is that true?
Thanks for any advice.

Getting your own credit report doesn’t necessarily affect your credit, it is not reported as an inquiry. However, I have read that it can affect your credit score. Who knows, since all of the scoring factors (the controversial ones) may not have been made public.

You can get trans union’s report for free at http://www.worthknowing.com -mine was current when I got it there.

You can get a free report under certain circumstances under the FCRA. Go to http://www.equifax.com and they tell you under what circumstances they will give it to you free. Be careful about picking a reason for a free one - IMHO - like you suspect fraudulent activity - it might get you a “hawk” alert, I don’t know.

Experian (formerly TRW) is at http://www.experian.com

The trans Union and Equifax reports are available online. Experian uses snail mail only.

Same deal at chexsystems:

http://www.chexhelp.com/english/publik/index.htm

They report on your check writing/banking activity.

And get this, hehe, I am an insurance agent. There is a “credit bureau” where an insurance company can check to see if I owe any insurance company money. I have to keep tabs on that one too. It’s a full-time job. whew!!

Actually Trans Union can be ordered online, but it is sent snail mail. Equifax and Experian both offer online reports, Experian will give you free report online instantly if you were denied credit (60 days), Equifax will allow you a free report if you were denied you can order online, BUT they mail it to you. TU you have to call if you have been denied.

I just got my EFX online, along with my beacon score. You can view it for 30 days. Maybe they changed it since you got yours, Mom?

Had to go through ID verification over the phone, so have some CC and loan information ready. They asked me my limits on 3 cards, info on car payment, what accounts I have, etc.
