Post subject: Does Checking Account Make it Easier to Get Credit Card

I often hear that having a checking account makes it easier to get a credit card. But there are no bank accounts listed on credit reports that I can see. How do they get information on your bank accounts? Is it only by what you provide on a credit application? Or is there a bank account database they are tapping into?
Just curious.
