A few months ago I was denied credit because of an error on my credit report. My report showed an unpaid bill from a dentist that was sent to collections (Pacific Creditors *****.) and was listed as a joint account. The debt was from june 1997 but was not reported to the credit bureau until Dec. of 2000. My husband went to this dentist once and paid the bill. We never recieved (nor should we have) a notice from the collection agency. I called the collection agency, Pacific Creditors, and they told me that this was an error, the bill was indeed paid, and that this never should have been sent to collections or the credit bureau. I called Experian and filed an inquiry and it was removed from my credit report. Now, my husband was just denied credit because the same information from Pacific Creditors about the dentist bill was on his report. He then called Experian, but not Pacific Creditors, and and filed a dispute but they did not remove it from his credit report. It is only revised, showing the debt in collections has been paid. However, this debt was paid when due, not after it went to collections. I also was just denied credit again because this same error appeared on a report from Equifax. I am waiting for my credit report from them which has a phone number on it that I can call to file a dispute. You cannot talk to a real person at Equifax without first sending for your credit report. When I recieve the report from Equifax I will call Pacific Creditors again. After I have the error removed from my report from Equifax and my husband has it removed from Experian, must I then pay for a report from Trans Union, and my husband pay for a report from Equifax and Trans Union and repeat the whole process. Do my husband and I need to file a dispute with all three credit bureaus individually, six altogether for both of us, and pay for the ones that weren’t used when applying for credit? This is a time consuming headache and seems so unfair since this is indeed an error. I there an easier way to correct this?

You can challenge all of them without your credit reports. You dont need your report at all. Because you and your husband both have your own fill at all 3 bureaus. So just send in a dispute to all three for both referring to the account in which you are challenging. Then wait for the response which will come in 30-45 DAYS via mail. If you still have trouble removing the item give me a e-mail and I can help you out. Most people think that if they can not remove it with one dispute nothing else can be done but you can approach it other ways too.
