Considering how much discussion there was on this board early this year concerning Fleet's delay in paying the rebate due their customers, I'm kind of surprised there has been nary a peep about Fleet requiring holders to carry a balance to qualify for the 2% teir. Since Fleet calculates on a calender year basis, there must be many who thought they were going to get a much higher rebate than will now be paid. Will Fleet pay rebates actually earned? I'd like to know because I have two Fleet cards, and will likely close them both (after the 0% exires -g-) if they hung their customers out to dry like that. In the absence of outraged posts on the subject it would seem logical to conclude that they are paying what is due. Perhaps only Ira, Eugene, Doug and I are the only regular readers on this board anymore, and none of us is affected. -g-

I get the 3% rebate every month on my Gulf/Fleet credit card. I did receive a notice earlier this year that I could earn a 4% rebate on Gulf purchases if I carried a balance. No thanks.

I didn't know the Gulf card was a Fleet product.

I understand Fleet is not cutting 2% rebate on all accounts, only some cardholders are receiving those notices. I personally was never considering their card, so I am not affected.
After I got $100 from Citibank, I switched to Farm Bureau Bank, been using them for a couple of months now. Initially I thought I'd charge $32,500 in about 2.5 years (that's my spending level) and get the $700 check then, but this month I bought $10,500 worth of I bonds, transfered the balance to First USA at 0% for 6 months and am going to pay it back once the bonds can be redeemed. So, looks like I might get to $32,500 in purchases earlier than I originally thought.
By the way, about First USA... They used to get very bad rap from consumers a year or two ago, and they were under investigation and fined (and even sued, I think) for posting payments late. A lot of folks were very upset with them, to say the least. Recently, I believe they have come to their senses. Now you can pay them on their site, and the payment posts on the day of payment (cool!)
So, I decided to give them a try, although I will still most likely close it once the intro rate expires. Even though they seem to be better now, I do not think they can match Citibank's service. My opinion, anyway.
