Through the years I have established a great credit record, but my husband's needs a little help. The main problem is insufficient credit history. He tried for a secured card, but was turned down. I'm wondering if I co-sign on a credit card application if he would be able to procur a card and if it would be reported to the credit bureaus in his name, thereby helping establish his credit rating. Any legit advice would be greatly appreciated.

Jen,

You can add him as an authorized user on one of your cards - one you have had a long time. Then just check to make sure they report it on his credit reports.

i just did the same thing for my Mom.

You would want to make sure that you put your Hubby on as a co applicant or Joint.. By doing this it will show up on his credit and improve his ability for getting credit.. You can add him on as an authorized user., but by doing this instead of having him as a Coap, it does not help in regards to giving him credit references, because an Authorized User is not legally responsible for the Debt as where a Co applicant is just as responsible as the primary.

I disagree.
CC companies do report on AU, generally speaking, and if one doesn't, you can ask them to. AU can be held responsible for the debt while they are on the card, not after they have been removed as AU. I checked on all this with my CCC's before adding my Mom to my cards.

Ed, where are you getting this information?
