I am thinking of applying for the Associates CITGO card. I have this thing, though - I like to have only cards from very good issuers (call me crazy) - consistently good customer service, no dirty play, simple dispute resolution, stuff like that...
I made some research. On one hand, there are some complaints that Associates cards have high APR (not that I worry, I pay the balance in full), and the fact that they settled with people who sued them also does not comfort me at all. I also heard that they do not report to credit bureaus.
On the other hand, Citigroup recently acquired them, and that to me is a good sign because I am of very high opinion of Citibank. Universal Bank card holders (like AT&T Universal) can actually call Citibank directly, use their automated system, talk to the reps as if it was a regular Citibank card. It is also possible to register the card at Citi web site, view transactions and do a bunch of other stuff online. That's great.
Getting back to Accosiates, I have some questions, especially to Citgo Preferred Visa holders:
Can you call Citibank (800-950-5114), use automated system and talk to the reps about your account and make changes and decisions on it?
If not, how do you find their own customer service?
Can you see your card activity on Citibank's web site www.accountonline.com/CB/Login.dcl?
Is your card reported to the three credit bureaus?
Any dirty pranks they pulled on you? Any glitches that were not quickly and easily corrected?
Thanks a lot. I appreciate any feedback.
(Linda, I know you have a card from them, can you add anything to what you said here: http://boardserver.mycomputer.com/read.html?id=2793&thread=2789&f=1&u=Fairterms?)

Eugene,
There was one opinion within our "Cardholder Reviews" section. I have copied the review as follows:
Citgo Preferred Visa
The Associates Category: Reward - Gas
Overall Rating: Two stars
Card Benefits: Two stars
Customer Service: Three stars
Change in Rewards
When I signed up for this credit card I would get money off gasoline purchases. They stopped that and raised their rates. I am ready to cancel this card and transfer the balance to a lower interest rate card.
Review posted on 3/8/2000.
Hope this helps!
