What is the actual value of airline miles? Or how many airline miles do you need to fly round trip anywhere in the U.S.?

The value of an airline mile equals the cost of the ticket divided by the number of miles you need to accumulate to get it for free.

Davey, I agree completely with Eugene.

Cost$ divided by Miles needed = value of miles

A layman's example: the average miles needed for a coach class ticket inside the lower 48 US states is around 25,000 miles (50,000 or more for overseas flights). The mileage required can differ from airline to airline, and can be effected by the "type" of mileage you have accumulated (base versus standard, etc...) and the type of ticket you are purchasing (coach versus business or first class, etc...) Also, some airlines will allow you to apply mileage toward the purchase price of the ticket, allowing you to pay for the difference.
