My roommate filled in my name in the space for "additonal credit card request" on a credit card application (My credit was not considered for this card). He subsequently filed for bankruptcy. I was not listed on the bankruptcy except for this one credit card. The bankruptcy is now showing up on my credit report under this credit card. Is there anything I can do to get it removed? Thanks, Pat

If you are listed as "AU" authorized user, you can make it disappear...if it says "JOINT", it's going to be harder.

It says "joint". The report says "Status; included in bankruptcy/never late". It should come off my report in 2 years. Is it worth the trouble to try to get it taken off now, given I'm trying to get a new lower interest rate card so I can transfer balances on my other cards? Thanks, Pat

It's always worthwhile to have your credit report correct and in order. You never know what tomorrow might bring. Is your friend willing to state the truth, that you are an authorized user and the account is not held jointly by the two of you? Such a letter to the card issuer would go a long way towards correcting the error

Actually, a bankruptcy will stay on your report for 7-10 years. Since you are listed joint you must've been on the account as a coapplicant-which basically says you are just as responsible for the account as the applicant. You can try contacting the company to advise them the bk was individual & they may remove it but unfortunately it probably won't be-depends on the company I suppose. You can also try disputing w/the credit bureaus. If you were just an authorized user, then the issuer should be able to just remove it since you were never liable for the account to begin with. Good luck!!
