Depending on how they do the downloading of transactions, it would have to be pretty large cash back to compensate for the additional work involved in downloading/importing QIF files or using WebConnect.

Case in point, I had gotten the Pentagon Federal (PenFed) card that pays 1.25% but I have since stopped using it. The additional 25 basis points wasn't enough to make up for downloading/importing QIF files versus another card that has DirectConnect.

I am interested in learning more as details are released. They say it is going to be the highest cash back credit card. I wonder how they define that. The median cash back for all purchased is probably 1% with up to 3-5% for select types of purchases. I would be very surpised if they offered 3-5% cash back of all purchases.

Sorry to hear about your problems with the credit union card. By "Direct Connect", do you mean automatic online downloads of your account info. into your personal finance software (like Quicken)? Just curious.

Yes, although I'm sure MS Money has the same thing but called something different.

DirectConnect allows downloading of transactions from the various instituions from within Quicken by clicking a button (and typing a password). Makes updating Quicken easy and convenient. The file is usually updated daily.

WebConnect is less convenient. After logging onto the financial institution's website, find the option to download transactions and select WebConnect. When the file starts downloading, it is recognized by Quicken as a W.C. file and downloads and processes the file. Although the file is usually updated daily, some financial institutions, e.g., MBNA, only update the WebConnect file once per month.
