I HAVE READ THAT CREDIT UNIONS ARE FAIRER THAN MOST LENDERS. CAN ANYONE EXPLAIN HOW TO JOIN ONE IF YOUR EMLOYER DO NOT OFFER THE CHANCE TO? THANKS

The two other ways I can think of to join are:

A) belong to some organization that has a relationship with the credit union. For example, I used to live in a place where the electric company (co-op) had a credit union, and I joined that way. If you are a member of say, the Kiwanis club, maybe they have such a relationship.

B) be related to somebody who is a member of a credit union. Different credit unions have different requirements about relatives joining, but I know of at least one that will allow anyone who is as distantly related as 1st cousin (your aunt or uncle’s child) joining. Ask your relatives if any of them are members of a credit union.

The good thing is, once you get in, you are usually always in. Even if you change employers or whatever, your membership is still valid.

Do a little searching online and you’ll find there are even credit unions that merely require you to live within a certain county.
