An FYI concerning a recent (Town North Bank ) MasterCard purchase being declined.

After spending 5 days last week trying to resolve the issue (and being assured each day by Customer Service that the transaction is okay and should go through) I finally heard by phone on Friday evening from the "security department". They informed me that the location of this particular merchant falls in a location blocked by security. (Never heard of a geographical security block). However, there was no security flag on the account to indicate to Customer Service WHY or THAT a transaction is being blocked. The "security guy" told me they would remove the "block" for 3 days (Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday) so the purchase could be processed. This did not work... either as a result of oversight or as there are 16 hours difference in time. He said they were reviewing the security perimeters but haven't arrived at a solution. Really poor customer relations practices here that increased the purchase price of the product significantly... I have had to conclude the transaction with a money order ($4.80) plus Global Express cost of $5.00.

So..... I am wondering if the same security perimeters apply to ALL banks or does each bank set its own security levels... does this apply to VISA as well?... I am looking for a NEW card (bank) that will avoid this kind of problem in the future. Do you have any recommendations?
