I'm filling out a credit card application. Under where it says "household income", what should I put in for that? I have roomates and we live in a house, but I am not related to any of them.

Put just your income. They are looking for the total income of the people who could eventually be responsible for the payments. Like a spouse, parent, guardian etc.

ROOM-MATES may be a grey area but I put MINE...HERS...AND 2 KIDS

TOTAL GROSS HOUSEHOLD INCOME

"IF" it asks for "INDIVIDUAL" income I don't apply!!!

If they are paying you rent in house you own, I would include that as income. If this is a "frat house" with 15 guys, get real You may have to verify income, and if you cant do it, that is probably your answer right there.

I've been confused about this too. Could I include my parents' income even if I don't live with them?

HH income is a grey area. Technically, it is ALL people residing in your home, so you are free to include their income. Now, whether you want to include roomates, friends, non family, that is an individual choice you have to make.

But, the credit card apps do ask for HH income and do not specify they have to be family or otherwise.

One can assume of course.

I think what they mean by household income is your income AND your spouse/domestic partner's income. In other words, the total income that you may have access to. Now don't make up a large amount that won't make sense when they pull your credit report, like saying $100,000 yet most your cards have limits less than $700. Also, I wouldn't make my income so large while having little money in my bank account because they will probably ask you for your account number if they give you a small limit and you call them to get more. I applied for Citi mastercard a few months ago.My household income is more than $160,000/ year but only about $69,100 is mine. The initial limit they gave me was $1,500. So I called them because it didn't make sense, and I told them I wanted $10K limit, so they took my banking information and pulled another report--without telling me-- then they granted it within 2 mins. Now, I had a lot more than $10K in my bank accounts, so if I claim that my income is $160,000, I have balances high enough to reflect that kind of income.
