Credit Card Airlines Miles that Can be Used with Any Airline

I understand from persons who have had credit cards that give mileage that they have had trouble redeeming miles as so few seats are designated for non specific mileage redemption.

Do you have info on this? I see you highly recommend The Value Miles Platinum Visa, which gives, I gather, non specific miles. Can you tell me if you have had any feed back regarding "use on any airline" cards? So far I have only used Aadvantage on Citibank MasterCard.

Any help you can give would be greatly appreciated, prior to making a switch.

Hey, Curtis--speaking of airline miles, didja know Consumer Reports has a nice article on the topic in its October 2005 issue.

And you're quoted in it on page 25!

(Doesn't seem to be available online to non-subscribers, alas.

Of the ten frequent flyer programs rated, CR picks American, Northwest, and Alaska airlines (in that order) for domestic travel, and American for travel to Hawaii. JetBlue is the best "non-traditional" program.
