Post subject: American Express Rewards Plus Gold Card Review

I got a pre-approved offer from American Express Rewards Plus Gold Card offering the first year fee waived and $250 gift card after my first purchase. Was wondering what this would do to my credit score seeing this is a charge card and has no spending limit set. I was thinking of opening it and keeping for one year then closing it because i’m not so keen on paying the $150 fee next year. The gift card has my attention for sure any advice would be appreciated thanks!

Greetings and welcome to the board! I would take the 250 bucks and run and not worry to much about your credit score…unless you are planning on applying for a loan soon. That is a VERY generous offer. How did you get the offer out of curiosity?

This offer came pre-approved in the mail. I have excellent credit and get a least two offers in the mail a day I don’t take my name off the mailing lists because I don’t want to miss offers like this. I was also concerned that opening and closing an account within a year might not be good for my credit score.

I’m not an expert on credit scores, but I don’t think it would be a big deal. Wouldn’t make a habit of it, though.
