To benefit from getting cap one to post my high limit, how long must the balance be there?

one statement period?
one reporting period to the CRAs?
one day?
one week?

I just got a limit increase to $1000 (YAY!) on cap one -14.99%
We want to buy a bed, and my new providian has a balance transfer of 3.99% but purchases are 12.99% soooo............

I want to buy the bed on cap one to get the high limit to show on cr, then balance transfer to providian and pay off very quickly (as quickly as I can).

So how long must the high limit be on there?
thanks, the Mrs.

Have heard quite a few weight in on this matter, and we have come to the determination that as soon as you make the purchase it will be a matter of record! So you can purchase this item and before your grace period is up - transfer it to the other account right quick. Should go through right fine for you.

Mrsmo,

I have been watching my PG to see when my accounts update and how it changes my score. My Cap 1 is always due on the 17th, and a new bill is generated within 2 days. They usually update the CRA's between 1 and 2 weeks later. Can't say if everyone's account works this way. What you could do is make your purchase about 4 to 5 days before the new billing period, then wait for update to CRA. Then make your transfer, which should be well within your grace period. You may get one finance charge, but it may not add up to that much. Just a thought.

Yeah, I think the safest bet would be to let it stay on for an entire billing cycle. The finance charges would be worth the fico jump.

Yeah that is what I mentioned to you before to let it go through the entire billing cycle and then pay it, looks great in two ways. Shows high limit (sort of)since they don't show CL and shows ability to pay off or pay down.
