Just recently was approved for a Diamond Visa Platinum Card.

9.5% Fixed rate for all purchases, balance transfers & cash advances.

No balance transfer, convenience check or cash advance fees.

I am missing something because the site says this instead of what I received. So I will most likely have to call in and see if I can't nab the 5.9% balance transfer deal.

Quote:
9.9% fixed APR* on purchases and 5.9% APR* fixed for life on balances transferred today

Oh, and they pull TransUnion, at least in the midwest area here.
704 credit score, for a $2,000 credit limit.

A lot better then I have had before, so I will be happy with this one I think.

NightStar,

I had a National City card several years ago but closed the account after six months when the intro rate went to 19% plus. I should have called and tried to work something out or just kept the card for the available credit. But this was before I knew much about the importance of available credit and the impact of closing accounts on the credit score.

One thing still strikes me as odd. My National City account has never been on any of my credit reports. For some reason my short-lived Fleet account didn't show up on any of the reports either.

Sometimes there is a limitation as to what the customer service dept. is authorized to do so it is better to see if they have a retention dept. and see if they can give a more attractive offer.

I learned a lesson the hard way today, I put in my mailing address instead of my physical address.

Well since the bank did not have my new physical address they tried mailing to my old address. So I called today to report lost card, then it show up at my po box, too late though.

Just hate to see them even report one of my accounts lost / stolen and closed.

I know here looking at credit reports that I do see National City reporting their accounts.

You might try, like I have seen others accomplish - calling them back and asking if you can re-open this account. I don't know National City policy but I have seen people get fortunate for the effort on other accounts.

I know here looking at credit reports - that I do see National City reporting, so depending on how long back, it might be a change in recent years. I just can't remember if they reported to all 3 CRAs though.

I wonder if you had not been in Fleet credit cards system long enough for them to report.

A good example to this, is that me and DH (dear husband) just recently got a mortgage loan through ABN-Amro & it figures that they have a policy of not reporting the first 6 months of the accounts life. But for some reason they only dragged my suffering out for 3 months don't know why - when their rep said it would be 6 months.

Pro's and Con's to that though... especially with a mortgage - when it does finally hit the report, it is not 100% maxed out, some payments and history will be added once reporting starts.

The bad part, I have seen people refinance, with in 6 months and know for a fact this company won't verify account info with 3rd parties, but by mail for $25 a shot, so the new banks could not be updated in time, to properly figure for underwriting the debt to income ratios.

Having checking account with National City - and following my account online, has been a god send on no longer messing my checking book up.

I use to be so bad at figuring in account fees, that a few times it resulted in bounced checks - and that is no fun running out to the business to immediately pay so they didn't try to resend. Well after a few times, I definitley put in an agressive plan to fix this problem.

I decided when I wrote a check or deposited money, that on purpose I would drop the change, or actually show a few dollars less in my book then what went into the account, I think I did this for about 7 or 8 months. Well it did not improve on my check book balancing skills and it got so bad, that when I went to the bank for help - the lady actually had to take my check register book home to work on it.

The good news the next day was that I had over $600 to the plus that I did not know about. Since the checking online I can say I no longer have this problem nor the extra money, LOL

But it has been great, because checks dating back 6 months can be found in the system. Also noticed tonight that you can immediately print a copy of the check once it is posted. Both front and back!

So if anyone is not using their checking online this is going to be a great service for having records to print off for important purchases.

I have been bitten by the saving bug, so I have a savings account, that I periodically put money into. Within 2 months I have agressively put in $400... so if I can keep it up, we will be doing real good. I also opened an IRA - it was not the one I wanted, but maybe later I can put it over to a Roth IRA. Or just open a seperate one. The IRA I have now is modest just $50 per month, but it is a pension that I can change and they say the max that can be deposited per year is $7,000 but until I win the lotto, that ain't going to happen.
