I applied and was accepted to get a cap 1 card back in 1/31/05 its been 6 months now and I’ve been paying it on time and not going over my limit. (It started at $200, it now is $400.) By the way this is my first and only credit card.

what cards can I apply to and get accepted to get? Should I wait more to have more credit history?

When you’re just starting out there are some choices for starter cards like the Household products and some others.

Most starter cards are characterized with smaller limits and higher rates, your right that you want to build some history and the household cards often are a decent choice compared to some of the others but keep in mind that you don’t want to end up with a handful of cards that will not grow with you.
Cap1 is also aggressive with issuing multiple cards.

If you can be added as an authorized user on a relative’s card that has good history this would also help build your credit file.

I think you should approach it as get another starter card or become and AU, build some history then look at cards from CITI like the AA card or Chase , Bank of America also offers a partially secured card if you don’t qualify for the regular card.
If you’re not a member of a credit union you should join one many have better terms than some of the banks and are more agreeable to helping you in your goals.

My point is you want to try and get some Prime cards that will grow with you as the years go by and develop the relationship often getting better terms on other products versus having a stack of cards that will not grow with you.
