I started out with a credit card at circut city. I changed it to a business credit card with First North American National Bank. I have had that card since 1995. I worked my way up to 13000. worth of credit and recently my card changed to Emerge. I had a balance of 4400. on it and had noticed my rate was 20.24%, I called them after I saw this and asked for them to lower my rate or I would pay off the balance and close the account. They said they couldnt, so needless to say I have closed the account and I paid my balance off in a few days. They will never get me as a customer again!!!!

Compucredit routinely buys distressed portfolios from other lenders and they re-issue the cards under the Emerge name. In this case, they bought it from Chase who runs the circuit city credit card program.
Very common for them to jack rates, tack on fees, and make it near impossible to reach customer service.
The whole point is to get as much fees as possible before 1 of 2 things happen.
1) You let the account charge off
or
2) You pay the bill in full and close it

My original account was with Fleet. I cancelled my card in March 2005 and the card was part of a bankrupcy that was initialed in April 2005 and discharged in August 2005. During that time (after the card was cancelled) they accepted several charges against this card and recently I have been getting phoned every evening. When I want them to explain why they accept charges on a cancelled card they just say I need to contact the company filing those charges and because my accouhnt is in 'collections' I can't speak to any one in 'customer service' and only customer service can answer why they accept the charges. What recourse do I have at this point?
