Having just transfered from the UK to work in one of my company's US locations, I'm running into the problem of not having a credit history in this country. What is the best way to start building this? Should I get a secured credit card with my bank (or other lender), or should I be able to obtain a 'normal' credit card?

'Normal' card is practically out of the question. Secured card is the best choice, just make sure the issuer reports the account to credit reporting agencies. 'Unsecured' cards for people with bad or no credit are more expensive than secured ones.
