Post subject: establishing credit to get a credit card

How does a single woman, divorced and having an ex who is messed up the credit rating, get a credit card without a credit check that looks at the ex's record? I have tried to get a card but have been turned down because of his bad credit or because I don't seem to make enough money? Any suggestions or solutions to this? Thanks...

Have you considered getting a secured credit card? Secured Cards involve you sending a security deposit to a creditor to "insure" the balance you carry and offer an excellent opportunity to re-establish your credit. The amount you send to secure your card establishes your credit limit. You can find a list of secured cards sorted by rate at the following web address: http://www.cardrevolt.com/cards/secured.html

UNLESS YOUR OLD CREDIT WERE ALL "JOINT" ACCOUNTS, YOU SHOULD HAVE NO TROUBLE GETTING YOUR OWN CREDIT.

Why do they look at your ex's credit???
Are you putting him as a "joint" card holder???

My sister was told (by her bank) to get a store credit card and carry a balance for a few months before trying to get a regular credit card. She has to establish credit (ie: be in debt) before she can get a mortgage. Sucks....
