I had a GE Visa that had totally messed up my account with an incorrect interest rate and unearned late charges. I tried to work this out with them and got nowhere. Finally, after about 4 months, i calculated my balance at the correct interest rate and made them a lump sum offer to close the account, which they agreed to. They insisted on a phone check payment, which I did. A couple of months later, I noticed they still showed the ampunt owed. They claim that the check was refused processing by the issuing bank. I checked with the bank and they claim that a check was never presented to them and if it had been they would have had no reason not to honor it.
In the meantime, the account was sold to firstusa. Within a few weeks, firstusa agreed to and accepted the GE visa agreement. This has created 2 problems for me.
1) on my credit report, both ge & 1stusa are reporting the same history of overdues and r9's, which makes it appear that I had 2 accounts at the same time with the same problem.
2) My original firstusa card, which I have had since 93, was recently revoked due to the above situation.
I have over a 25 year credit history that is all r1's & i1's except for the above case. Is there anything that I can do to correct this situation?
Thanks
