After paying off my Fleet Platinum card in March, I got an offer from them on balance transfers with a 0% APR through November 2001, at which time it would convert to my 9.9% purchase rate. I transfered a balance from another card to the Fleet Platinum in April. Both my May and June statements reflect the balance transfer in a "promotional balance transfer" column and a 0% interest charge. My July statement has no "promotional" column and I am now being charged interest at 9.9% on the balance transfer. I have complained to Fleet, talking to four customer service reps and getting four different stories. The basic gist is they never make this kind of offers or if I can't fax them the letter showing what they promised, I'm out of luck. The fact that I have two statements showing the promotional rate is apparently irrelevant. Anyone else having similar problems?

Same thing happened to me. Got a 0% on balance transfers offer so I transferred $2800. When I got my statement I noticed that I was being charged a variable percentage on both transfers and purchases. When i called they denied that the offer was for transfers and said that it was 0% for purchases even though the written statements I was getting posted a variable rate. I spoke to several reps and all denied what my written statement was saying. I paid off the balance within a couple of months and then called to close the account, repeating my dillemna and they continued to deny that my purchase interest was in effect. Upon telling the rep that I wished to close my account I also stated that the call was being recorded for legal purposes as I have heard that if they list your account closed at their request it can trash your credit rating. The rep transferred me to a "specialist" to whom I repeated the reasons for my dissatisfaction. She continued to deny that I was being charged interest for purchases. When I told her I wanted the account closed and listed "closed at my request" I also told her that the conversation was being recorded for legal purposes. She freaked out and kept repeating that she didn't authorize me to record. I recommend that everyone record their phone conversations with these people so we can justly screw them in court. Be sure to get employee reference numbers before you tell them you are running tape.

Have to be careful on the tape recordings... from state to state they differ on what is allowed.
If I can I will post back a web site that has specific instructions for each state concerning tape recordings.
Some states require notification of the party you are recording, if they don't want to be recorded, then it is their right to discontinue the phone call, but there are some states that don't require notification... or if so some type of beeping device like police departments use.
I don't know if this is legal, but in cases of people dealing with ID Theft, I had advised before that they record conversations, and if they don't notify the other side, that they could not use the tape in court, but they could write down what they talked about with that party and instead use that in court - written notes.
This come to mind after talking to a guy 3 or 4 times in one day, cause he was just to upset to grasp what we where covering on his ID Theft case... I realize sometimes people are just to upset to get the facts straight, and in them cases I really think recording is a good idea so you can take better notes to proceed from there.
It might not be legal though, so suggest for each state people do check into the tape recording laws first.
Best Regards,
