Sue,
Thanks for the tip! I verfied this offer by visiting Citbank’s website, but did not notice a restriction on the amount of the transfer…it appears that it is a 1.9% “across the board” rate on transfers for a 9 month period. Great deal! We have added this offer to our “Balance Transfer” page…

Hi everybody.
I just got a call from Citibank, they proposed to write me a check, or transfer balances in any amount up to my available credit. Terms - 1.9% until December, and no other fees.
What is wrong with them? I earn 6%+ on another bank’s MMA - they obviousely lose and I obviousely win . Or do I?
I am rather new to credit. Where’s the catch? Or is it just another generous bank? (LOL)

Thanks so much for your recent post! This offer sounds attractive and you should consider taking advantage of it. However, there are offers that you may find more appealing that are featured on our “Balance Transfers” page. So, you might want to “check these offers out” before making a decision. Now I know. There is a balance of about $450 (just everyday purchases that I was gonna pay off at the end of the cycle). The APR for purchases on my card is 13.4%. So, if I decide to pay less than the full amount due every month, on top of 1.9% on the amount of that check to me, 13.4% will be ticking on balance of purchases. Besides, my monthly payments will go towards _lower_ APR first and that makes the total picture not as bright as I thought. If I had time to pay off those $450 BEFORE the check to me gets processed, AND if I do not add any purchases to that card before paying the full balance off in December, there will truly be no other charges except those 1.9%.
