Post subject: citi mastercard application.
I applied to the platinum select card last month. It was a pre-approved offer but they sent me a letter requesting phone statement, credit card statement, bank statement, a copy of ss card and another utility statement in order for them to process the application and they wanted me to write my date of birth again..They already pulled a credit report 2 weeks ago and my score was 752 then. Is that a common practice? the housing status on my application was “other.” no rent or mortgage and the utility bills aren’t in my name but the banking, investment, and the other credit card I have all are mine. Is it safe to give them too much information about my finances since all these statements have account numbers? Should I send only the front page of my credit card statement or the whole thing? any ideas why they are so demanding? I really don’t need their card. My visa has $18K limit and my apr is only 10.24%.

They asked me for additional info when I applied. It is a measure to prevent identity theft (so others can’t get credit in your name, they want to make sure it is really you who is applying).
What they are looking for are documents that have both your name and address on them. You can black out the account numbers on what you send and it should be OK.
